FORMER US president Bill Clinton is coming to Hay Festival to deliver a UN lecture on racism and conflict.

It will be his first public engagement in the UK since he left presidential office in January and will be followed by questions.

It will be a rare chance for the public to question the former president about his role as negotiator and peacemaker during his eight years in the White House.

Festival organiser and founder Peter Florence, said: "We are thrilled he is coming because it will be a great boost for tourism in the area and because he is one of the world's great talkers. It is very rare that anyone in this country gets the chance to talk to him in the public arena."

Jarvis Cocker and his band Pulp will open the festival on May 24.

Mr Florence said all the tickets to see Bill Clinton, which cost £100, are sold except for 10 that have been reserved exclusively for Hereford Times readers. The first 10 readers to phone in will be offered the chance to buy them. The price includes an invitation to the Friends Celebration Reception at 6.30pm.

The Orange Festival Hotline number for tickets to see Bill Clinton is 07973 100900. Callers should quote reference number HTY 123.
