THE locals of Mordiford thought that their ancient, legendary dragon was well and truly dead and buried but in recent weeks sightings have been reported of a 'terrifying, green monster with a deafening roar'.

Patrons of the Moon Inn in Mordiford as well as the Bunch of Carrots in Hampton Bishop have been dumbstruck by the re-appearance of the beast, during rehearsals for the Pub Players' performance of 'Maud and The Dragon'.

This fun-filled spectacle has been written from an original story by Andy Morrey and scripted by local playwright Mick Hoyles, bringing all your favourite elements of pantomime, with plenty of local references, to the rejuvenated legend of the Dragon of Mordiford.

Spells, songs, suspense and courage, courting and comedy abound. Will the dastardly Lord Dormington and his daring dragoons win over the lovelorn Lord Garson and the ravishing Maud? And what really did happen to the Fownhope Shop? A play for all ages that will hold children spell bound and keep the adults chuckling.

'Maud and The Dragon' is playing at The Moon Inn, Mordiford tonight and at the Bunch of Carrots on April 27 and 28. All performances start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £1.50 on the door. Takings will be donated to St Michael's Hospice and SCOPE.
