WIGMORE were the winners of the Herefordshire Primary Schools Hockey Festival and Leominster were runners-up.
Twenty-eight teams took part in the festival which was whittled down to seven for the final day at Hereford Leisure Centre where Karen Brown, the Great Britain and Olympic player, was on hand to do some umpiring and hand out the awards at the finish.
The primary schools hockey programme is a project organised by Herefordshire Sports Council and delivered by the Herefordshire Hockey Development Group to encourage more young people to enjoy the sport.
Herefordshire sports development officer Jane Powell said: "We have had two great festivals so far with excellent hockey being played. There are a lot of talented young hockey players around the county and, with the support of the development group, we hope to produce future stars."
Other awards: overall player of the festival, Luke Mayo (Lea); best female, Bethan Downes (Burghill); best male, Nick Aldrich (Leominster); top scorer, James King (Madley); best goalkeeper, Ben Waite (Leominster); fair play, Gorsley Goffs Primary School.
