Hereford United have handed Andy Quy the chance to re-establish himself in goal.

Quy makes his first appearance in the first-team since September in tomorrow's home Nationwide Conference clash with Hednesford Town (3.00).

This follows Shrewsbury Town's decision to recall Scott Cooksey from his second month's loan at Edgar Street.

Injury has kept Quy out of the picture and Mark Jones, who deputised for him until Cooksey's arrival, was allowed to join Merthyr Tydfil last week.

But Director of Football Graham Turner believes Quy is ready to step in for Cooksey, who kept six clean sheets in seven appearances for the Bulls.

Turner said: "We had three goalkeepers and a YTS lad last Friday, and since then Mark Jones and Scott have departed and it has seriously diminished our resources in that area. But I think we would still have let Mark go anyway.

"Scott's record here speaks for itself but Andy is champing at the bit and ready to come back.

"He is fully fit and has had quite a lot of reserve team football lately and I am confident he will do a good job for us."

Turner has fitness doubts over defenders Matt Clarke and Ian Wright and striker Paul Fewings, saying: "I don't think Wright or Fewings will make it but Clarke has got a chance."

United could go third if results go their way tomorrow, and with another home clash with Woking to follow next Tuesday, the Bulls have a great chance of stretching their unbeaten Conference run to 12 matches.

They also know they have to keep winning if they are to capitalise fully on any slips by the top pair, although even Turner acknowledges it will be a tough task to claw back a 15-point deficit on leaders Kidderminster Harriers.

He said: "These are two big games for us, and we can't waste our recent good away form.

"If we keep doing what has got us our recent good run, it will go on. We can only do our own thing."

Hereford won 1-0 at Hednesford back in January thanks to a Rob Elmes goal. Elmes was also on target in their 1-0 victory at Nuneaton last weekend and could stake a claim for a return to the starting line-up.
