LIFE-LONG Hereford United fan Ron Parrott is preparing a second book on his Edgar Street heroes.

Parrott's first literary effort, a complete record of United's 25 years in the Football League, was published last year and was justly acclaimed.

His second project is well under way and is a complete history of the club, intended to mark the club's 75th anniversary this year. The project has the full backing of the club.

Parrott, who has been following the club for more than 40 years, warned that United fans may have to wait before it appears on the bookshelves. He said: "The way it is going I will be surprised if it will be out before next Christmas, but it was always in mind anyway.

"I am proud of it already before it has even started. It will be much better than the last one -- it will be A4 rather than A5 size, there will be a lot of narrative, a lot of statistics and, above all, photographs."

Ron and his team of helpers, who include Evening News sports reporter Richard Prime, have managed to unearth every single team line-up to have worn Hereford's colours, dating back to their earliest days in the Birmingham Combination and covering all matches in the Southern League, Football League and Conference as well as the various cup competitions.

There will be pen-pictures of every player who has appeared for the club, and naturally the club's finest moments will be prominently featured -- notably the FA Cup win over Newcastle and election to the Football League in 1972, right down to Leroy May's winner against York two weeks ago.

But of course the darker days will not be forgotten, such as the last-day relegation showdown against Brighton in 1997.

He hopes for better luck this time, as his first book coincided with their relegation to the Conference. Perhaps this time the launch could clash with United regaining their League place -- you never know!
