PAUL Fewings is out to make up for lost time . . . by firing the goals to put Hereford United into contention for the Nationwide Conference title.

Since moving to Edgar Street last summer, injuries have severely restricted the 21-year-old's appearances. But since scoring a late winner as a substitute on his return to the side at Southport, the former Hull City player can't stop the flow of goals.

He now has nine to his credit and has helped the Bulls climb up the Conference and into the first round of the FA Cup.

Five goals in September enabled him to share the Conference's Goalscorer of the Month award with Welling's Ritchie Hanlon, the pair splitting £250 between them.

Fewings joined his home-town club Hull straight from school and made more than 50 League appearances for them.

"I had one or two good seasons at Hull but some were plagued by injury. This is probably the longest run I have had without injury and I think it is paying dividends now.

"Without trying to sound big-headed I have always had confidence in my own ability.

"I am much fitter this season - my hamstring injury is better and I am just hoping to get through the games and perform quite well.

"I have started a few games in the left-wing position which is not my favourite, but I will do anything to play in the team and I am not bothered whether it is at left-back or anywhere. But I am up front and I hope to stay there and establish myself."

Fewings has now settled well in Hereford, sharing a house with team-mates Gavin Williams and Chris Lane.

He now believes Hereford have a great chance of restoring Nationwide League status to the city on the back of an excellent run which has carried them into sixth place.

Their recent 4-0 win over title favourites Rushden and Diamonds - which included two goals from Fewings - only emphasises what the Bulls are capable of.

Fewings added: "Everyone was saying Rushden were a strong side and we did very well against them.

"There is nobody to fear in this league. If we can put a good run together who knows what could happen?

"We don't want to get carried away but if we can keep our form going we are in with a very good chance."
