CUP success this season could be vital to Hereford United's future -- says Director of Football Graham Turner.

The Bulls entertain Sussex County League side Burgess Hill Town in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round next Saturday, with victory ensuring a place among the Football League sides in the next round.

United are still struggling to make ends meet following their well-chronicled financial troubles of two years ago, so the rewards of a good run and tie against a big club could prove a life-saver.

Turner said: "It is not easy for us by any means, but a good Cup run will be vital.

"We have two opportunities in the FA Cup, which is a big money-spinner, and the Trophy which if you get close to Wembley, you will see gates increase considerably.

"When we played Tottenham in the Cup a

few years ago we made well in excess of £200,000 from the two games, so it can be a very lucrative tournament.

"Even two years ago when we reached the third round and knocked out Brighton and Colchester on the way, we made well over £100,000."

Last year, however, they crashed 3-2 at home to Newport (Isle of Wight) at the first attempt, and a Trophy setback against Hitchin meant the cup coffers at Edgar Street were empty. Therefore, there is an extra resolve among the players to ensure that the same thing does not happen against Burgess Hill, who showed they will be no mugs with a 2-1 win at Newport County in the last round.

"We found out last year how easy it was to come unstuck," said Turner, "So nothing will be taken for granted. We will be very guarded, assess them and do our homework."
