GAZZA and Duncan Ferguson could be among the big names playing at Edgar Street in the summer, writes NAT SYLVESTER.

Hereford United chief scout Ron Jukes has used his extensive contacts to fix up a friendly against an Everton XI on Saturday, August 11.

The match against Walter Smith's team will be the last before the new Nationwide Conference campaign kicks off.

"It was all down to Ron Jukes and his relationship with chief executive, Mike Dunford, when they worked together at Derby County," said director of football, Graham Turner.

"It's not easy to arrange these matches and if you look at Everton's position they have a stack of clubs around them where they don't have to travel."

A mouth-watering clash with Premiership champions Manchester United has also been arranged on Saturday, August 4.

Off the field Turner has had a busy week negotiating contracts, managing to tie down several key players including club skipper Ian Wright for two years.

Defender Matthew Clarke has also signed a two-year deal with midfielders John Snape and Jimmy Quiggin agreeing one-year contracts.

"We are never out of the woods financially but the fact these players are prepared to re-sign means they are optimistic about our chances," said Turner.

Turner is still waiting on news of ex-Wolves legend, Steve Bull, who is eyeing up managerial opportunities.

"I don't know what Bully is doing but if he is offered managerial positions he will consider them," said Turner. "But if nothing materialises he could be back with us. I think he enjoyed his time with us."

He believes Bull can still do a job on the pitch. "He's lost a yard or two but in training he stands comparison with anyone both for pace and the more sustained work."
