FORMER Wolves goalscoring legend Steve Bull could be pressed into service for Hereford United.

Bull, currently on United's coaching staff, has trained regularly with the squad and has discussed the subject with Director of Football Graham Turner.

But Turner, who has told injury-prone striker Steve Piearce to stay away from the club for the time being, said Bull would be a substitute at most and he was unlikely to figure in the immediate future.

He said: "We have talked about it, but we are aware he has got a serious knee injury and at the moment I don't think he is fit enough to play."

Turner has finally lost patience with ex-Halesowen striker Piearce, who has started only nine games in a season-and-a-half at Edgar Street.

The final straw came when he dropped out of Tuesday's LDV Vans Trophy victory over Yeovil Town with a hamstring injury.

Turner said: "It is partly frustration on my part. He was pencilled in to start the game and once again cried off.

"I have told him to stay away. It is possible he might need a rest and he may need to get away from the place for a while."

The 26-year-old missed most of last season with a back injury and has not started a game this campaign due to his hamstring problems, although he has made several substitute appearances.

He is still under contract until the end of next season so he may get another chance, but Turner added: "He is not in the reckoning for the Christmas and New Year games, although I don't think he would have been fit enough anyway."

The Bulls have no game tomorrow, returning to Nationwide Conference action on Boxing Day at Chester City.
