Hereford racked up their second Football Conference victory at Edgar Street in five days and gained revenge against Dover on Saturday.

The Kent club won twice at Hereford last season, in both Conference and FA Trophy, but this time met their match in 18-year-old Gavin Williams who scored a goal in each half to maintain the Bulls' perfect home start.

Williams, who also scored the goal when Hereford drew at Dover's Crabble ground last season, was delighted with his contribution to the victory.

''The first was a great cross from Gary Cook and, with the second, I'd just looked at the clock and was wondering how much more time the referee was going to play,'' he said.

Hereford, who welcomed back Mark Taylor after illness and included Cook in the starting line- up in place of Paul Fewings, should have taken the lead in the 25th minute.

Richard Leadbeater was well placed when Richard Walker flicked on an Ian Rodgerson corner but his fiercely-struck shot hammered against a post and went behind.

But Hereford had to wait just five minutes more to go in front when Cook, who turned in an energetic display, drove in a cross from the right and Williams met the ball with his right foot to flash a shot past the helpless Dover goalkeeper, Charlie Mitten.

Hereford controlled the play in the first half but Dover worked hard to try to get back into the game in the second half and should have levelled after 71 mintues. As Joff Vansittart bore down on goal, he was tackled by Walker and Ian Wright and the ball broke for Ricky Reina just 10 yards out. The striker's shot was hit too straight, however, and Andy Quy made a good save.

Hereford finally settled matters five minutes into injury time when Leadbeater flicked on Chris Lane's cross and Williams struck a first- time effort from 10 yards into the net.

Leadbeater, Taylor and Wright received first-half cautions for fouls andthree Dover players were cautioned after the break by Birmingham referee Trevor Parkes.

''The match provided a good all-round performance,'' said United boss Graham Turner.
