BARNET'S German-born 6 ft 5 in goalkeeper Maik Taylor frustrated Here-ford with some fine saves and preserved former England international Alan Mullery's unbeaten record since he took over as director of football from Ray Clemence.

Under Mullery's guidance Barnet have recorded two wins and two draws and he said: ''Taylor kept us in the hunt but he was only doing the job he is supposed to do.''

For 49 minutes after the Bees stung the Bulls through their leading scorer Sean Devine, who gave them a seventh- minute lead with his ninth goal of the campaign, it looked as if Taylor would keep a clean sheet.

this term, grabbed his eighth goal. Taylor's performance certainly expunged any lingering nightmares he may have had from his Football League debut in Barnet's opening match at Edgar Street last season. On that occasion he was beaten four times and suffered the rare indignity of conceding a goal to the opposing keeper, Chris MacKenzie.

Although Hereford maintained an unbeaten home record against Barnet, on a more favourable day they could well have bagged three or four goals. Nevertheless, as director of football Graham Turner said: ''Those sort of breaks even themselves out over a season and I believe you create your own luck.

''We got up a good head of steam to have a decent second half but, after a league run of three wins and a draw at Edgar Street, it is very disappointing to have dropped five points from our last two home matches.''

another preventable goal. Striker John Brough lost possession but the defence had time to close down Devine before, clad in his lucky green-coloured boots, he flighted a 25-yard drive into the roof of the net past a surprised Andy DeBont.

was never in serious jeopardy. At the other end, however, Taylor brought off four first-class saves in the opening half to twice deny both Foster and Chris Hargreaves. His fourth, right on half-time, was particularly brilliant he flung himself to his left to scoop away Har-greaves' header inches from the goal-line.

He was eventually beaten when Hargreaves' cross was partially clear-ed to Gareth Stoker. The midfielder's first-time shot rebounded off a defender and he hooked the ball over Barnet's defence for Foster to complete a well-timed run by tucking his shot into the corner of the net.

Hereford had virtual complete territorial supremacy in the second period. But, when they pressed for a winner, Taylor parried away a blistering shot from Stoker and also did well to save Brough's close- range header.
