KERRY Giddings could get his first Hereford United call-up for tonight's Nationwide Conference game at Kettering Town (7.45).

The former Stourport Swifts, Pershore Town and Redditch United striker has signed a part-time contract with the Bulls after impressing in pre-season.

Director of Football Graham Turner is set to include him among the substitutes tonight, saying: "He has not done a lot of work so far but there is a possibility he might be on the bench."

Giddings' call-up has been precipitated by injuries to former Luton midfielder Michael McIndoe, who is doubtful after receiving a kick on the thigh in Saturday's goalless draw with Southport, while striker Steve Piearce, who came on as substitute, is also in doubt with a recurrence of his long-standing thigh injury.

Defender Paul Sturgess is still ruled out with a knee injury, although winger Paul Parry may return to the squad after being sidelined with an ankle problem.

Turner was not overly disappointed with the draw against highly-rated Southport, but although pleased with the defensive display, he believes they need to improve on the front foot.

He said: "We should have taken all three points but the quality of crossing and the sharpness in the box wasn't as good as I would have expected. But an opening day draw is not a disaster and we looked very solid."

Kettering began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat at Yeovil on Saturday, but Turner added: "They are going to be difficult at home.

"I am looking for the same solid defensive performance but we need to be brighter in and around the box."
