FEW people at Hereford United have experienced more of the game than their vastly experienced chief scout Ron Jukes.

His arrival at Edgar Street enabled him to resume a long-standing partnership with the Bulls' Director of Football Graham Turner. Jukes is one of the Midlands' foremost talent scouts, having unearthed several prominent players over the years.

He first worked with Turner in 1981 when he joined Shrewsbury Town, where Turner was player-manager.

They went their separate ways when Turner moved on to Aston Villa, Jukes then taking over at Derby, but they reunited during Turner's successful spell in charge of Wolves.

Soon after Turner took over at Edgar Street, Jukes was brought back in and he still has the key task of rooting out new tal-ent. He said: "When I came here Hereford

were a League club but they got relegated, but scouting for any club is the same -- it is just a matter of looking for players.

"Some clubs have got a lot of money to spend, others have none."

Jukes is helping Turner assimilate potential newcomers to the squad for next season, which will be finalised over the next few weeks once the list of released players from Nationwide League clubs has been released.

He is hopeful of United regaining their place in the Nationwide League although he acknowledged it would be a tough task. "We are trying but so is everyone else. At the end of the day there will be one winner and 21 losers."

Meanwhile, Nationwide Conference new boys Boston United have followed up their earlier interest by signing striker Paul Fewings, who was released by the Bulls at the end of last season.

Fewings was Hereford's joint leading scorer last season with 15 goals.
