A 90th-MINUTE goal by substitute Paul Fewings snatched three points for Hereford and lifted them into seventh place in the Nationwide Conference on Tuesday.

It was the second time in four days that the striker had come on to score the only goal late in the game - he did the same at Southport on Saturday.

The goal was set up by Paul Parry, another substitute. His right-footed cross from the left flank was headed back across goal for Fewings to dive between two players and beat keeper Steve Perrin.

Fewings, who substituted for Steve Piearce in the 64th minute, said: "I've come on and scored again, but I don't want to make a habit of it. I'd rather be in the team from the start. I hope I can show the gaffer what I can do."

The Bulls' victory has set them up for what could well be an exciting encounter this Saturday when they take on second-placed Stevenage Borough. But they did not escape without casualties. Central defender and skipper Ian Wright withdrew at half-time with a nose injury and in the last seconds Forest striker Adie Ming went charging into keeper Mark Jones and gashed his leg.

It did not look as if it would be United's night when Perrin, who also skippers and keeps wicket for Wiltshire CCC, dived to his right to stop Gavin Williams' 76th-minute spot-kick after visiting skipper Billy Clarke had handled.

In the first half Perrin made fine saves to deny James Wall and Piearce, while Forest were out of luck in the 86th minute when Dennis Bailey headed against United's woodwork.

Hereford: Jones, Clarke, Wall, Wright (James 46 min), Sturgess, Rodgerson, Taylor, Snape, Elmes, Piearce (Fewings 64 min), Williams (Parry 83 min). Subs not used: Lane, Rudall.

Attendance: 1,795.
