Hereford finally emerged from their long, barren spell with a comprehensive Nationwide Conference win on Saturday.

The Bulls, who had managed just three goals in their last seven games, equalled and then exceeded that tally within an hour at Cherrywood Road as they registered their first double of the season.

With on-loan signing Steve Cowe giving more purpose and pace to the attack, Hereford looked an altogether more dangerous proposition than in recent weeks, and, although bottom-of-the-table Farnborough are undergoing a few crises of their own, they were still seen off in some style.

The United defence also gave little away, with acting skipper Ian Wright and Tony James finding time to move forward and get their names on the scoresheet.

It was Wright who gave Hereford a dream start with a goal after just two minutes. Keith Downing was fouled midway inside the Farnborough half, and Paul Parry's long free- kick found the centre- back in acres of space as he volleyed powerfully past keeper Tony Henriksen.

It was Wright's sixth goal of the season and he is now the club's joint leading scorer, with more goals from open play than anyone else.

Cowe and Mark Taylor were foiled by excellent Henriksen saves before Hereford extended their lead in the 34th minute.

James picked the ball up on the left after a corner had been half-cleared and his centre was scrambled to the edge of the box where former Northern Ireland international Robbie Dennison was waiting to lash a 20-yarder into the corner of the net.

Farnborough might have pulled one back a minute later when a mistake by James allowed Nick Hooper a shot which flashed across goal, but, generally, Hereford were in the ascendant and the pattern continued after the break when two goals in a four-minute spell sealed the victory.

After 55 minutes a cross by Dennison was fumbled by Henriksen and the ball landed at the feet of James who made no mistake from six yards with an open goal in front of him.

Then Cowe found some space on the right and his deep cross was smashed home by the impressive Paul Parry -- just reward for another useful display by the 18-year-old. Chris Lane blasted over from a good position and then only another fine save from Henriksen prevented Cowe from marking his debut with a deserved goal.

Hereford: Quy, Lane, James, Evans, Wright, Parry, Downing (Cook 81 mins), Taylor (Williams 81 mins), Leadbeater (Shirley 87 mins), Cowe, Dennison.
