COFFEE MORNING -- Tref-y-Clawdd Women's Institute is holding a coffee morning and bring-and-buy stall from 10.30am to 12noon on Friday, October 5, at the home of Betty Gould, Tenby House in Victoria Road. This will be in aid of county funds.

COFFEE EVENING -- Knighton and Presteigne Labour Party will hold a Hallowe'en coffee evening at 9 Russell Street, Knighton, the home of Mollie Spittles, on Wednesday, October 31, from 5pm to 8pm.

KNITTERS -- Knighton Oxfam Knitters are back at work in St Edward's Close Social Room, though several members reported on numbers of tops and a blanket or two being completed during the holiday month of August. Do come along on any Thursday from 2pm until 4pm, if you would like to help those in countries where help is desperately needed. Oxfam too needs you.

SINGING DAY -- After the success of last year's singing day at St Edward's Church, there will be a second singing day on Saturday, October 20. This year's theme is 'Healing' and will relate to the St Edward's Harvest Festival, which will follow on Sunday, October 21,, with the harvest supper on Monday, October 22.

Geoff Weaver, director of RSCM Outreach, will conduct the singing day which will include Magnificat in D (Brewer), 'For the Beauty of the Earth' (Rutter) and The Hallelujah Chorus (Handel). All music will be available on the day and robes will not be required. The event will start at 10.30am.There will be a lunch break from 12.15pm to 1.30pm, and practice will then continue to tea at 3pm. At 3.30pm, the St Edward's congregation will join the singers for a final rehearsal and the day will conclude with an evening service from 4pm to 5pm, in which all the pieces learned and practised through the day will be performed

ST EDWARD'S CHURCH -- On Saturday, churches of the Knighton Group will take part in the St Michael's Trail Pilgrimage linking the churches round Radnor Forest, which are all dedicated to St Michael. On Saturday, November 17, there will be a handbell concert in the Church Hall, and the annual Christmas Bazaar will be on Saturday, November 24.

JUMBLE SALE -- A jumble sale in St Edward's Church hall for church funds raised £210.

WEDNESDAY CLUB -- Raffle winners at a recent meeting of Knighton and District Wednesday Club in the Social Room at St Edward's Close were: Mrs N Barrett, Mrs B Davies, Mrs V Parker-Smith, Mrs E Bostock, Mrs M Upton, Mrs Moss, Mrs D Price and Mrs R Parry. Mrs N Barrett, and Mrs E Conway were helpers and Mrs Conway also called for bingo.

COFFEE MORNINGS -- Macmillan Cancer Relief will hold a coffee morning at Knighton Hotel on tomorrow with the co-operation of Mrs Jan Harris and her staff. On the same morning, Enid and Joan will hold a coffee morning at 2 and 3 Victoria Close, Church Street, from 10am to 12 noon, also for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

BEER AND FOOD FESTIVAL -- The pubs, hotels and eateries of Knighton are holding a one-night festival on Saturday to celebrate some of the beers and food produced in Wales and around Offa's Dyke. Each licensed premises will be host to at least two different guest beers and house beers, one from Wales and one from England, offering a minimum of 15 different real ales and also traditional dishes from Wales and the Borders. A detailed map and scoresheet will be available from all participating establishments on the night to help visitors find their way round the delicious fair on offer. GROUP OF PARISHES -- On Sunday (30th September) there will be one service for the whole group and this will be at St Michael's Church, Beguildy, at 10am. At 3pm, there will be a service in Knighton for the Oddfellows and this will be taken by Father Andrew Pearce.
