Lye Town 2 Wellington 0

WELLINGTON'S rapid rise in the West Midlands League Premier Division received a setback against a strong, uncompromising Lye outfit.

Whilst the visitors created enough chances to have extended their six-match unbeaten run, the home team gave them a sharp lesson in finishing by converting their only two clear-cut openings.

Wellington started brightly but were knocked out of their stride by a goal after 15 minutes. They recomposed themselves but Pete Wallace and Tom Herbert both missed scoring chances.

The second period started in similar fashion to the first, but once again it was Lye who produced the scoring touch to double their advantage midway through the half.

Andy Sherlock was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet for Wellington. After breaking clear of the Lye defence, he lobbed the stranded keeper but could only watch as the ball landed on top of the net.

Wellington 2 Bromyard Town 1

Mark Fish and Tom Herbert netted first-half goals to settle the earlier mid-week local derby against Bromyard.

The visitors reduced the deficit after the break but the villagers did just about enough to deserve their fifth win of the campaign.

Wellington opened strongly and took the lead after just a couple of minutes. Fish met a Gareth Wood corner and headed powerfully past the visiting defence. They continued to attack and doubled the lead with a fine individual effort. Herbert picked up the ball on the edge of the box and jinked his way past three defenders before coolly slotting the ball into the net.

Scott Morris gave Bromyard some hope when he reduced arrears in the second half but the home team held on to secure the points.
