THE economic development of Herefordshire is futile without a modern purpose built library to support it.
That is the view of the Hereford Library Users' Group, which will be discussing the future of the service at a meeting on November 7.
Mike Rogers, group chairman, said: "Without such a new facility the education, lifelong learning and leisure facilities in the county will deteriorate rapidly and the economic, cultural diversity and educational attainments of the county will suffer.
"There is, in the view of the group, little point in central and local government and Europe allocating large sums for the development of the county without having the very necessary services, knowledge and information base that a modern purpose built library can provide. Such a new building is now urgently required."
Anyone interested can attend the meeting of the Users' Group at Hereford City Library, in Broad Street, on November 7 at 7.30pm.
