Kington Town 4 Shawbury 1

KINGTON moved up to third place in the West Midlands League Premier Division and extended their winning league run to four matches.

Kington started confidently and went ahead with a penalty after 21 minutes when a handling offence denied Kevin Gwillim a scoring opportunity. Danny Hill converted the spot-kick.

They extended the lead in the 38th minute when a deep free-kick from David Howes, aided by indecision from the Shawbury goalkeeper, saw Scott Jackson loop a header into the far corner.

Kington were content to sit back after the interval and did not spring to life until the last quarter. Jackson beat an attempted off-side trap to race through and collect a nicely weighted ball from Danny Moon. Spotting the goalkeeper off his line, he showed good control to find the target with a delicate lob.

There was an element of luck about their fourth goal when Roy Jordon deflected a shot-cum-cross from Andy Clarke with his knee to leave the Shawbury goalkeeper flat footed. With almost the last action of the game, the visitors got a consolation goal when a deep cross from the left was headed home at the far post.

Kington Town 1 Malvern Town 0

Three Malvern dismissals in the last 15 minutes relegated this previously competitive match to a farce.

Visiting defender Chris Thomas was first to go for questioning a decision, and Phil Slade quickl;y followed for the same reason. With five minutes remaining, Adam Ward was red carded when he retaliated after a tackle by Kington's Scott Jackson, who received a yellow card.

Kington had held the upper hand in the difficult conditions and took a first-half lead through Danny Hill. The young forward showed excellent skill, turning a couple of defenders before slotting the ball home in the 35th minute.

Kington continued to hold sway and were unlucky not be awarded a penalty when Kevin Gwillim was bundled over.

The home defence gave a solid performance and frustration crept into Malvern's play at the finish.
