Huw, whose grandfather, Hay butcher David Williams , was one of the main sponsors, joined in the fun at Hay picnic area, helping to raise £175 for the charity.

The three-hour match was played under official world conker championship rules and attracted around 50 players.

The winner was Richard Pratt and the runner-up was Hilary Yates. The junior champion was Emily Cooper, the youth champion was Lewis Day and a special award was won by David Ferrett.

Appeal chairman, Haydn Pugh, said: "I would like to thank all the sponsors, the players and spectators, indeed everybody who helped to make the afternoon such a success. See you all next year."
