FORMER winner Steve Smith regained the men's title at the Herefordshire County Closed Champion-ships in White-cross.
With holder Damien Ellis unable to compete, Smith faced Andrew Watts in the final, where he lost the opening game, 9-7.
Smith dug in for the second game and was leading 7-4 when he slipped going for a retrieval after being wrong-footed. The referee allowed a let, and Smith raced on to level the match.
A frustrated Watts struggled to regain his composure. And, as the third game slipped from his grasp, Watts was punished with a conduct stroke, forcing him to start the next game 1-0 down. Smith dominated the final game to win 3-1.
