LUCTONIANS Colts marched into the fifth round of the National Colts Cup with an emphatic 45-0 win at Derby.

Hooker Jonathan Meld-rum snapped up four tries in this fourth-round mauling to set up an attractive home clash with Worce-ster.

It was not until the 20th minute, however, that Meldrum scored the opening try and then Gareth Bufton added the second on the stroke of half time.

Luctonians dominated the second half with Meldrum, set to make his USA Under-21 debut at Christmas, running in three further touch-downs.

James Lawson and Jacob Greasley also crossed the Derby line, while Ashley Bennett kicked five conversions.

Luctonians Under-16 booked a place in the third round of the North Midlands Youth Cup with a 15-8 home win over Birmingham & Solihull.

Luctonians were made to work hard for victory in the last 20 minutes, however, after a try each from James Williams and Ian MacKay, a Ross Deakins penalty kick and an Andrew Kettle conversion had given them a 15-3 lead.

Luctonians 2nd slipped to a 24-17 reverse in a friendly against visiting Wolverhampton 2nd.

Tries from Jamie Hughes, Nick Hamer and Steve Novak, and a Phil Davies conversion could not prevent Luctonians' narrow defeat.

Luctonians 4th also suffered a narrowly friendly reverse, going down 17-10 at Bromyard 2nd.

Veterans John Bushnell and Dai Thomas scored Luctonians' tries, while two touch-downs and a conversion from Reg Dixon and a Richard Harrison try earned Bromyard the slender win.
