Hinton 1 Leominster Town 3

LEOMINSTER made light of the fact that this was their first West Midlands Division 1 South action for a month with a good team performance in an entertaining local derby.

Although there were no goals in the first half, both sides created numerous chances.

Leominster went close after five minutes when Daniel Rocke made ground down the left and crossed to the far post where Chris Price headed just wide.

Hinton took advantage of a sloppy clearance from the visitors when Peter Lamb made an interception and fired past the advancing Scott Hodgetts, only for his shot to hit a post.

Price had a cross-shot cleared off the line and at the other end young Hinton striker Ross Semple was clean through but Hodgetts made an excellent save.

After the break Hinton stepped up a gear and put the visitors under pressure. Steve Mifflin was denied by another fine save by Hodgetts, and then Leominster cleared from a goalmouth scramble.

Leominster reasserted themselves and took the lead with a dubious penalty from Adie Bennett after Ashley Botwood was adjudged to have been bundled off the ball in the box.

Jamie Allen came off the bench for the visitors and immediately made an impact on the game with a good run down the right to set up their second goal, Dan Plowman stepping over his low cross for Rocke to fire home.

Lamb put Hinton back in the game when he converted a penalty, awarded when Tim Thomas was bundled over as he chased a long kick into the box. With Hinton striving to get on terms, Plowman settled the issue in Leominster's favour when he hooked in a first-time shot from 25 yards following a long clearance.
