CRAFTY students attended the annual New Entrants Training Scheme Awards Presentation at the Chase Hotel, Ross-on-Wye. The ceremony was hosted jointly by Herefordshire College of Technology (HCT) and Peter Evans, senior policy advisor for the Countryside Agency.

Presentations were made to all apprentices that successfully completed their training with special awards going to James Tallack for 'Best Furniture Making Apprentice', Jonathan Botterell for the 'Most Improved Thatching Apprentice' and the Saddlers Company Bursary Prize For Achievement went jointly to Julie Gwillim and Jackie Winchester.

Mr Richard Wakeford, chief executive of the Countryside Agency said: "This is a very special day for all apprentices as we mark their achievements.

"I am delighted that we have once again maintained a very high level of achievement with 98 per cent of those apprentices completing their training and the quality of work is superb, testimony to the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work of the apprentices.

"It also shows how important this unique programme is to the development of the productive skills needed by small rural firms if they are to remain competitive."
