SPORTS enthusiast Nick Webster has taken up an important position. He aims to 'score goals' for Leominster and Bromyard, writes PETE BLENCH.

Nick, 26, is the newly appointed Market Town Officer, a post that replaces that of the former town centre managers.

It's a different role as the brief also includes the wellbeing of the surrounding parishes. But the ethos remains the same.

"My aim is to help make Leominster and Bromyard better places to live and work," says Nick.

"I aim to concentrate on the big picture to ensure the area attracts funding whether from Government, European or regional sources."

Having said that, Nick knows that he's likely to be called upon to be a 'Mr Fixit' at street-level. He has been busy working with the town council and regeneration company on arrangements for Leominster's Christmas lights and festive events.

A graduate in Rural Resource Management, Nick has been in Leominster for 18 months in his former job as a development worker with the county council.

He knows, all to well, about the trauma the rural areas have suffered. Cattle and sheep on his family's small farm on the Shropshire/Welsh border were slaughtered under the foot and mouth 'dangerous contact' rule.

Nick, soccer player, golfer and swimmer, now aims to help the area to win through for better times.
