NEW Theatre Works is initiating another exciting September adventure - this time a theatrical journey along the banks of the River Wye.

Since 1998, New Theatre Works has been appropriating backgrounds and landscapes to inform theatrical experience, crossing the boundaries between the private and the public; the performer and the audience; the real and the surreal; the comic and the haunting.

"We can't give away the secret of what 'Down To The River' is about," said director, Dr Ellie Parker.

"We devise our pieces as a collusion between performers, audience and the landscape involved - and what could be a richer subject than the River Wye?

"The city of Hereford owes its very origins to the river. Here people cross to the other side, that is its literal meaning.

"A river has always played a key role in the development of a settlement, but how do we use and view the River Wye now?

"What is our relationship today with one of the most powerful symbols of life's source?"

At least 60 people will be involved in the production and the company is inviting ideas and opinions from people about the River Wye.

A public meeting is being held at The Courtyard on Monday, June 17 at 6pm. Everyone is welcome, particularly members of local historical and environmental groups.
