EISTEDDFOD -- There was a good attendance at the Longtown Eisteddfod and it was encouraging to see a high number of competitors, especially in the children's classes. There were wide-ranging performances in music, elocution and literacy. The handicraft competitions again proved popular. Overall a good standard was attained. Prizes were awarded in the specially made prize bags. The Peggy Watkins Memorial Cup awarded to the child with best overall achievement was won by Christine Alloway of Kington. The shield for the local child with highest achievement was awarded to Charlotte Watkins of Craswall and the John Yarr Memorial Cup for the winner of the adult recitation was awarded to George Cauldiot of Derbyshire. Interest has already been shown regarding the Eisteddfod 2003.
