AN upmarket housing development is to go ahead on land behind a village pub despite a parish council plea for cheaper homes.

Area planners gave the green light for three detached four-bedroomed homes with double garages on land to the rear of the Balance Inn, Luston.

Luston Group Parish Council protested over "creeping backland development" and the inclusion, as part of the site, of part of the back garden of Laburnum House.

The parish included a plea for local home-hunters in its response. "Luston needs smaller more affordable housing - not more executive style homes," it said.

A report said two applications covering the development, from Mr S Bengree, sought 'redefinition' of permission given for four houses in 1991. One of the four homes had been built.

The development was compatible with its surroundings and use of part of a back garden was deemed acceptable county councillors were told.
