A STUDENT at Hereford's Royal National College for Blind landed three gold medals and two silvers at the British Blind Sport Athletic Championships.

Paul Martin won the 400, 1,500 and 5,000 metre events and took silver in the triple jump and long jump.

He also secured a personal best time in the 500 metres, knocking three seconds off his previous fastest time.

Tony Larkin, the college's sport and recreation co-ordinator, said: "I was confident that Paul would return with a win under his belt, but to come back with five medals is impressive."

Martin plans to follow his achievements on the track with a successful career in sport and recreation. He is studying an NVQ in sport and recreation and has picked up useful training tips on stamina and flexibility from the course.

His long term aim is to represent Great Britain at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens.
