Colwall swept into the last 32 of the National Village Championship with a resounding 132-run win over county rivals Brockhampton in the area final.

A dominant batting display set up the triumph for the visitors, who posted a challenging 252-8 from their allotted 40 overs.

Despite losing Tom Wolfendale early on, Dave Powell (30) and Richard Williams (62) added 62 for the second wicket to propel Colwall to 84 at the half way stage.

Tim Riley's run-a-ball 24 and Lee Hankins' hard-hitting 30 lifted Colwall's run-rate before Steve Ferguson's 44 from 27 balls and Jordan Kontarines' 31 not out ripped apart the home bowling.

Ferguson and Kontarines took 31 runs off one over in the closing stages as the visitors closed on a positive note. Jennings was Brockhampton's most successful bowler, claiming 3-58 from eight overs, while John Walker took 2-11 and Richard Williams, 1-23.

Brockhampton's reply was an uphill struggle following Kontarines' impressive opening spell that yielded two wickets for only nine runs.

Ashley Nahorniak (49) and John Walker (16) added 42 runs for the third wicket to keep Brock-hampton in sight of the required run rate. However, the dismissal of Nick Price for a brisk 19 spelt the beginning of the end for the home side and Dave Sutton (4-17 from five) wrapped up the victory for Colwall inside 31 overs.

Colwall, who have now won the area final for the fourth year in succession, will host the winners of the Northamptonshire section a week on Sunday.
