JUBILEE CELEBRATION -- On Bank Holiday Monday, the villages of Welsh Newton and Llanrothal joined together to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee. During the afternoon there was a treasure hunt for the children on Welsh Newton Common. There is an overgrown bridle path on the Common, with the trees meeting overhead forming a green tunnel. The first path of this was turned into a fairy grotto. The children went through the grotto then down the lanes and around the Common. After the fairy grotto came the nursery rhyme theme. The final theme was based on the Jungle Book. There were bananas hanging from oak trees, orang-utans and a huge python wrapped around a tree. The treasure hunt followed these paths and finished at Yew Tree Cottage where a crock of gold awaited each child. The children then walked along the footpaths to Welsh Newton Village Hall for a party, with story telling and games and a lovely tea. Each child was given a Jubilee mug bearing the names of the two villages, Welsh Newton and Llanrothal. Seventy children were invited and 67 were able to attend. In the evening the celebrations continued with a party for the adults in the hall and social club. There was music from a group and a plentiful buffet.
