FUNDRAISING events -- Next weekend there are two fundraising events in Skenfrith. The first, on Saturday June 29, is a concert in St Bridget's Church, Skenfrith, given by the Kidderminster Male Choir. The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 each and are available at the door. Light refreshments are included and will be served at the back of the Church. The choir is a member of the Welsh Association of Male Voice Choirs and was the Association's Choir of the Year in 2001. Soloist is Rosemary Whaley, who lives locally and has a beautiful soprano voice. Any profits, after expenses are paid, will go to Skenfrith Church. Do come along and make this an evening to remember! The second event is an Open Garden. This is a lovely garden in a peaceful setting. Charles Elliott and his wife Carol Heaton have opened their garden on a number of occasions to raise money for the parish hall. Charles, an American now gardening in Wales, writes for a prestigious American gardening magazine. He has become known as the 'Transplanted Gardener' and has published several books based on his magazine articles. The garden, at Towerhill Cottage, Crossways, Skenfrith, is open on Sunday, June 30 from 2-6pm. There will be a plant stall run by Laura Houghton of Llangrove and refreshments will be available. The entrance charge is £2; accompanied children are free. Towerhill Cottage is situated on the lane between Crossways, Newcastle and the Bell at Skenfrith and will be well signposted on the day.
