The theme was the Kings and Queens of England and Great Britain from Edward the Confessor (Knighton's patron saint) to Queen Elizabeth II. The south side of the church was given to the medieval monarchs, and the north side the royal houses of Tudor, Stuart, Hanover and Windsor. The two sides were linked by the rood screen decorated by red and white roses together with the names of the many battles fought between 1455 and 1485 by the rival houses of Lancaster and York. There were also displays to commemorate the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, and also for the Mercian King Offa whose great earthwork is closely associated with the town. On the Saturday of the festival Radjazz.Inc performed in the Church Hall. Winners in the raffle were Effie Haynes (champagne), Councillor Ken and Mrs Ruby Harris (whiskey), Mrs S. King (Golden Jubilee mug), Elizabeth Petley (champagne), Diana Rudge (magnum of wine) and Steve Parry (biscuits). On the Sunday morning Father Andrew Pearce presided at a special sung Eucharist for the festival. Kevin Kell and Lin Heakin read the lessons. The musical setting for the Eucharist was 'A New People's Mass' by Dom Gregory Murray. The festival concluded with the late evening service of Compline.
