THE Ready Steady Win Sportsperson of the Year 2002 was celebrated at the Golden Jubilee Charity Golf Day.
Swimmer Andrew Field-house, 18, was overall winner for his outstanding achievements and dedication to his sporting career.
Most significantly, Field-house has qualified to compete at every National Championships for which he has been eligible - seven.
He gained a silver medal in 2000; achieved a ranking of eighth overall in 100m backstroke at the 2001 British Senior Long Course Championships; was three times West of England Champion, and this year won a silver medal at West of England Championships for the 100m Backstroke; won his 50th gold medal at District Championships; and represented Gloucestershire County at the British Inter-county Competitions.
Looking to the future, Andrew's short term goals are to medal again at the UK National Youth Champion-ships in August this year in the backstroke events.
Long term, he aims to achieve a blue for swimming at Oxford (reading Law from October) and compete at European and World Student Games in 2004.
Highly commended certificates were awarded to Harry Solven, 16, windsurfing; Jenny Spencer, 18, kayak; Daniel Robinson, 12, fencing; Alice Hurley, 14, dressage; and Margaret Williams, 13, judo.
Joanna Jones, Ready Steady Win's business fund manager, was delighted.
She said: "When you hear straight from the hearts of our young sporting recipients what Ready Steady Win has enabled them to achieve, well, that's when you know you really can make a difference to the future of young sports stars in this country."
