A FAMILY-run hotel deep in the heart of the picturesque South Herefordshire countryside has scooped a top accolade for its hospitality and customer care.
The Royal Hotel at Symonds Yat East was presented with a Heart of England Tourist Board gold award by Sir William Lawrence at a gala dinner in Leicester.
The 'Hospitality & Customer Care' category is new this year and is based on votes by customers who were asked to write directly to the board and explain why they thought the hotel should be considered for the award.
The Royal, a former 19th century hunting lodge, has been run by the Fairclough family since March 2000.
Another Herefordshire business - Wheely Wonderful Cycling - picked up a Silver Award in the same category.
