VILLAGE HALL -- There will be a luncheon in Almeley village hall, on Sunday, January 26 at 12.30pm. Tickets are obtainable from Mrs Bray at Almeley Post Office (01544 327 431). Early booking is advisable. On Monday, January 27, Almeley residents are invited to the annual general meeting of the hall committee. This is an opportunity to express one's views and also to join the committee. A Burns night supper with entertainment, has been arranged by the CASH committee, to take place in the village hall on Saturday, January 25 at 7.30pm. The dress code is to include tartan. Further information can be obtained by phoning 01544 327267. The next whist drive, organised by the hall committee is on Tuesday, January 21, commencing 7.45pm.

WEATHER -- Almeley residents who are weather watchers may be interested to know that during 2002, 33 inches of rain were recorded. The highest amount was in October, followed by February, November and December. The lowest amount recorded was in September, followed by March, June and July. In 2001 26.5 inches were recorded, with September once again having the lowest rainfall.

WI -- December 13 was cold and grey but inside the village hall bright and cheery. The committee entertained members past and present with poems, readings, tales of Christmas past, some good, others not so good and church howlers, 'very funny'! This was followed by a delicious festive tea. Edna Hughes thanked those who contributed to the compilation of the lovely new scrapbook, something for all to enjoy. Some members will get together on January 16, for a post Christmas lunch at Shobdon. Subs are due on Thursday, February 20, 2.30pm meeting.
