DIFFERENT coloured rubbish bags 'litter' the pavements of Tupsley, Bartonsham and Hinton marking a start of a fresh look at recycling for Herefordshire Council.
The scheme involves a kerbside and back door collection of recyclable materials assisted by householders who sort their rubbish into the relevant coloured bags.
The purple bags are for paper and textiles and the clear sacks take cans and plastics to reduce the usual rubbish put out in the black bags.
The bags are removed in special two compartment vehicles at the same time and place as the normal rubbish collection.
They are then taken to the newly opened materials reclamation facility at Rotherwas where the contents are sorted, baled and sent for processing into new products.
The pilot scheme means that any problems can be resolved before the scheme extends to other parts of the county.
