n There was a close finish to Kington Ladies' Coronation foursomes medal with Carolyn Jones and Joan Morgan getting the better of Janet Williams and Sue Powell on a card countback after both pairs had finished on nett 71.

Ladies' captain Chris Hughes and Ros Eaton came back from three down to beat Sapey on the 18th in the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

There were mixed results in the early friendly matches. After recording a 3-1 win against Brockington, Kington went down 3-2 at Herefordshire GC and 9-3 in a mixed match at Shrewsbury.

n Ross-on-Wye Ladies moved into the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday National Club Classic with a hard-fought 2-1 win over neighbours Monmouth.

Lin Bennett holed her putt on the 18th green to clinch victory. The other members of the team were Hilary Ridsdale, Joan Malim and Val Monk.

Judith Landau and Debbie Woods won the first extra hole against their opponents at Lydney to book their place in the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Katy Edwards had a resounding five and four win to move into the second round of the Champion of Champions competition.

Margaret Davis and Jenny Eckersley posted 97-24-73 to win the Coronation Foursomes and will now represent the club in the county knockout rounds.
