COUNCIL POLICY -- Knighton Town Council agreed to postpone discussion on its long-term plans to another day as there were not enough members present at a recent special meeting of the council in Knighton Community Centre.

WI MARKET -- Knighton WI Market is 21 years old on April 19 and the organisers invite all founder members, and customers both old and new to call in at the market on that date to join them in celebrating the occasion. The market is open from 9 to 11am at Knighton farm Supplies off Broad Street. "We look forward to seeing you," said a spokeswoman for the market.

LENTEN LUNCHES -- The last in a series of five Lenten lunches for Christian Aid was held in the Social Room, Saint Edward's Close. There was a choice of five home-made soups: lentil and vegetable, leek and potato, spicy root, curried parsnip or tomato. You correspondent chose the tomato soup. It had a delicious full bodied flavour with a subtle fruity tang. Winners in the raffle were Marjorie Wanklin, Diane Edwards, Hilda Jones, Edith Conway, May Hill, Catherine Reeves, Lil Davies, Dorothy Dean Mary Colenutt and Dorothy Rawlings. Helpers were Edith Conway, Diane Edwards, Sandra Goodwin, Audrey Green, Betty Goulding, Jenny Stothert, Olive Waters and Norma Hughes. The five lunches together raised around £270 for the work of Christian Aid. The organizers thank everyone who helped to prepare and serve the lunches and assisted with the administration, those who gave raffle prizes, and those who supported the Lenten lunches so generously.

STOP THE WAR COALITION -- About 30 opponents of the war against Iraq assembled on Knighton's Peace Square last Monday for the regular anti-war vigil. This is from 6.30pm to 7pm on Mondays and will continue as long as hostilities last.
