CRICKET CLUB -- The first net practice will begin on May 1 and the first match is on May 4. The Kwik Cricket Tournament will be held on May 25 followed by a six-a-side tournament. ARCHAEOLOGY PROJECTS GROUP --There will be a talk given by Professor Mark Macklin of Aberystwyth University in Eardisland Village Hall on April 25 at 7.30pm. He will speak on the ancient history and development of the Arrow Valley. Everyone is welcome to attend. This is part of the Arrow Valley Project under the direction of Hereford Archaeology Service. The next newsletter of the Eardisland Archaeology Project Group will be published shortly.

CHURCH COUNCIL -- A grant is being pursued with regard to the footpath in the churchyard. An estimate has been received and the laying of a lighting cable will proceed. The estimates for the work on the chancel roof have been received. A new design for an altar frontal to replace one which is worn out has been displayed and enthusiastically accepted. The PCC is grateful to Margaret Thurston for her work on this project. The next meeting will be on June 3.

EXHIBITION -- An exciting new exhibition is now on display in the church provided by Peter Davenport. Entitled 'Some Peoples of the World', it provides a uniquely rich collection of people in an extraordinary diverse range of environments from the high Andes of Peru to the paddy fields of south east Asia. This is a wonderful display and is not to be missed.

PARISH COUNCIL -- Members are considering the need for traffic calming measures and ways of preventing dog fouling. Elections will take place on May 1. Four new members will be standing to complete the team of seven.

WI -- The first speaker of the year was Graham Simpson who spoke on 'Collecting Old Sheffield Plate'. He provided a fascinating talk with slides explaining how items were made and provided illustrations from his collection. In February, Barbara Hutton was the speaker providing hands on opportunities with small model making. In March, Val Rixon gave a vivid and delightful account of 'Life as a London nanny'. Visitors are always welcome to monthly meetings in the Village Hall at 7.30pm.
