A FORMER head teacher at Staunton-on-Wye and opening batsman for cricket clubs in Leominster, Ludlow and Hereford has died.

Michael Clifford Green taught in various schools before becoming head teacher at Staunton-on-Wye and tributes to him have been paid in The Septet, the magazine serving the churches in the Frome Valley group.

In his younger days, Mr Green was a keen sportsman and as well as cricket, he also played rugby, threw the javelin and taught swimming.

He also felt very strongly about peace and conservation and was a peace campaigner and a member of CND in the 1980s as well as being involved with a donkey sanctuary.

After taking early retirement due to ill health, Mr Green and his wife Carolyn moved to Bishops Frome. Mr Green was also very fond of his Staffordshire Bull Terriers and had five when he passed away - he did have six but his beloved dog Scrumper died just a few weeks prior to his own death.
