COPS call them creepers, burglars who roam homes with the occupants inside. One of them has been busy across the county over the past month, starting in Hereford to head north.

He hit Orchard Gardens, Putson, first. That was on March 30. Since then another 10 raids have been attributed to him.

Baron's Cross, Newlands Drive, Hereford Road and Elm Close in Leominster, Schallenge at Bromyard - the creeper gets around.

That makes him a moving target for CID. They know he's not afraid to enter while occupants are at home, usually through insecure doors and windows.

They know the homes he enters are usually those of the elderly.

And once inside he goes for what's easy - cash, chequebooks and jewellery. But who is he?

Information on the creeper can be passed on to CID direct on 08457 444888 or through the 0800 555 111 Crimestoppers line.

Otherwise prevention is down to reporting suspicious sightings and tighter security, says PC Charles Naylor, Crime Risk Manager.

"Make sure doors and windows are secure and put large amounts of cash into banks or building societies. If you have elderly neighbours keep an eye on and a look out for any suspicious individuals or vehicles in the area."
