Shawbury Utd 1 Wellington 1

WELLINGTON'S youngsters showed a growing sense of maturity when they battled back to claim a draw against opposition looking for a high finish in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

Visiting midfielders Andy Price, Kerry Styles and Andrew Morgan took an early grip of the play in the middle and prompted several promising attacks.

Striker Andy Sherlock had a couple of good chances to open the scoring but unfortunately missed and occasionally chose the wrong option.

After the interval the visitors continued to create the better chances.

However, they were rocked back in the 67th minute when indecision between defenders Liam Craig and Steve Griffiths and goalkeeper Scott Hodgetts gave the Shawbury striker a chance to toe-poke the ball over Hodgetts.

Wellington did not drop their heads and were rewarded in the 76th minute when substitute Jack Gwillim threaded a ball through the home defence for Keith Jones to pick up and level with a blistering drive.

Although Wellington pressed for the winner they were fortunate to get a draw when Hodgetts misjudged a last-gasp shot which ricocheted off the upright and his body before trickling to safety.
