JOHN Kyrle High School students in Ross-on-Wye have certainly not been lying in bed during the Easter holiday.

Keen pupils have returned in their droves to get in some extra revision for their forthcoming exams.

The school held its third Easter Revision School for SATs, GCSE and A-level students in all subjects apart from technology, which ran extra classes over the half-term holiday.

In total, more than 200 hours of teaching time was given between April 14 and 17 and it is believed more than 70 per cent of its students from Years 11, 12, and 13 attended.

Head teacher Nigel Griffiths is convinced the Easter School relieves stress upon students and believes a two-week break so close to the final examinations puts students at a disadvantage because they have to structure their own time.

"The Easter School is run in relaxed fashion - uniforms do not have to be worn, for example, and it allows teachers and students to cover work and answer past examination questions in a way that gives students confidence," he said.
