A LITTLE piece of border history has taken pride of place at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery.
The watercolour landscape of Hay-on-Wye will join the rest of the David Cox collection after The Hereford Times alerted council officers to the sale offering them time to organise a grant to support the purchase.
The Resource/Victoria & Albert Museum Purchase Grant Fund offered a substantial grant securing the painting now on display until May 13.
David Cox spent 13 years in Hereford in the early 19th Century as a drawing master at Miss Croucher's school for girls.
Herefordshire Council's Collections officer for fine and decorative art, Catherine Willson said: "It is very satisfying to see this lovely picture back here in Herefordshire.
"Without the support of the resource/V&A purchase grant fund and the friends we would simply not be able to compete on the open market for works such as this; we are extremely grateful."
