MADAM, Probus IV Club experienced something quite different and very enjoyable at a recent meeting.
Nine pupils from the Cathedral School, under the supervision on Dr Howard Tomlinson, came to demonstrate their skills of debate.
The first group, two girls and two boys of about 10 debated Britain joining the Euro.
The second group of sixth formers debated the case for and against the conflict with Iraq.
Debates were chaired by another older pupil who conducted both extremely well. Pupils had done their research, prepared balanced and persuasive speeches and delivered them with considerable skill.
It was so good to witness the abilities of these young people, doing an excellent job and showing what the vast majority of today's youngsters are capable when their energies are channelled in the right direction. May they go on from strength to strength.
