Madam, I have recently started doing some voluntary work for a small charity called Ready Steady Win who are based at The Leadership Trust in Weston-under-Penyard.

They provide bursaries and grants to young Herefordshire sports people between the ages of 10 to 20 to help them achieve and maximise their own personal potential within a recognised sport.

At present they help more than 110 talented youngsters in more than 40 sporting disciplines from athletics to windsurfing. Among them are several Olympic hopefuls, gold, silver and bronze medalists and world winners.

They are the cream of the county and have the potential to become the sports stars of the future.

In these hard times, Ready Steady Win is in urgent need of more fundraisers to bring in the money so they can continue to support these youngsters.

If you think you could help by holding a fundraising event like a coffee morning, run a raffle or sit at home telephoning corporate companies, we'd love to hear from you.

You can find out more by looking at the window display in Clarke Roxburgh in Gloucester Road, Ross-on-Wye where there is also some literature on hand.

I didn't know anything about Ready Steady Win until I popped in for a chat with the Volunteer Bureau to find out what voluntary work was going in the Ross area - and you'd be surprised at the different ways you can help the community.

For me - I enjoy being busy, using my computer skills and doing a job without having to take full responsibility.

I started off by stuffing 2500 envelopes, then put my mind to designing the window display which is at Clarke Roxburgh.

And when a donated computer is set up I shall start compiling and updating databases - and who knows what I'll be doing after that! You can contact me on 01989 760 713.
