KWIK CRICKET -- Five local schools entered the annual Kwik Cricket Tournament held on the Eardisland Cricket Club ground on May 25. The winner was the Kingsland School, made up of pupils who live in Eardisland, and the runner-up was the second Kingsland team. The trophies were presented to the winners together with, certificates and caps to all the children who participated, by Edward Thomas. He commented on the skills and talents of the children and the wonderful spirit in which it was played. The club is grateful to him and to all the children, teachers and parents who supported the event from Dilwyn, Canon Pyon, Shobdon, Kingsland and Weobley. Thanks are also due to the committee members who helped to organise it. The ETCCB kindly provided the caps and shirts which were presented.

CRICKET CLUB -- The first match of the season was played against Clee Hill on June 1. The result was a win by four wickets for Eardisland. The bowlers were accurate and bowled good line and length throughout. Andrew Davies took four wickets and Rob Canning three in a fine opening burst. Others chipped in and the Clee Hill innings closed on 123. The Eardisland batting was consistent and there were some outstanding performances. They ended on 129-6. Tom Hicks played with great control and skill, opening the innings, and scored 29. Alan Munn, playing his debut match for the club, having demonstrated his great talent as a wicket keeper, went on to score 26. He held the innings together at a crucial time and played some delightful strokes all round the wicket. Andrew Davies scored 16 and Rob Canning hit two powerful sixes in his unbeaten 27, one of which ended the match. The partnership with Alasdair Munn, another playing in his debut match, ensured that Eardisland achieved a well-deserved win. The chairman commented that it was very pleasing to have several young players in the team, all of whom performed with great enthusiasm and success.

VILLAGE HALL -- Eardisland Village Hall has been placed firmly on the map with the erection of three directional signs. This was made possible by a grant from Advantage West Midlands Village Halls Marketing Fund.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROJECTS GROUP -- An exhibition of artefacts, photographs and other information relating to the work being undertaken, is now on display in Burton Court. This includes the medieval pot shards, a Norman gaming counter, a variety of unusual bone finds and information about the project.

PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL -- At the AGM the churchwardens Mr J Collins and Mr P Powles were re-elected to serve for next year. At the annual parochial meeting the PCC was re-elected, all existing members being prepared to continue to serve and Annette Blyth was elected as a new member.

PARISH COUNCIL -- Lorna Bishop, Eardisland's police community support officer attended the last meeting to explain her role. The temporary closures of footpaths ED5 and ED6 for 6 months were discussed. Some 30 parishioners attended a meeting when Councillor C Grover, cabinet member of Herefordshire Council, together with Mr Hemblade, public rights of way officer for Herefordshire Council discussed the matter fully. The parish council urged the officers to do all that is legally possible to get the footpaths re-opened.
