AFTER two abandoned games in the Michael Parkinson Trophy, Colwall Girls eventually got underway on Monday evening in this pairs trophy competition.

COLWALL GIRLS v BARNARDS GREEN GIRLS

Colwall are this year selecting from a squad of 25 players aged 11-14 under the captaincy of Worcestershire fast bowler Dee Lannie.

Colwall were up against a slightly more mature Green side. Zena Heaton on winning the toss elected to field first. This proved interesting as two wickets went in the third over reducing the run rate set by Emily Dovey and Bo Chowdry.

Despite good scoring by Connie Holden and Dee Lannie wickets also tumbled costing five runs on each occasion. S Booth, Emma Marks and F Marshall all took wickets. Colwall reached a total of 243 off 16 overs.

Enthusiasm was always going to play a major part. Lucy Smith and Sophie Booth got off to a cracking start putting on 25 runs in the opening spell. S Marshall and N Bradley were equally as sharp but were both out to the bowling of Bo Chowdry and Dee Lannie and a wicket maiden by Jenny O' Toole.

The accurate bowling of Emma Smith, Vicki Merredy and Laura Berry was not helped by some poor fielding allowing the Green to edge closer. A wicket in the last over for Dee Lannie, who bowled Zena Heaton, took the Green back to 247 however a fine shot for two by Marshall and a quick run three took the Green's total to 252.

Training continues on a Wednesday evening 6.30-8pm.
