FLORAL displays will be put up in Bromyard next week as the town begins its Britain in Bloom campaign.

More than 120 hanging baskets are expected to be unveiled throughout the town, along with flower beds and other floral planters.

Last year the floral displays earned the town a silver medal award and organisers are striving to impress judges even more this time.

"We're definitely looking to do better this year," said Bromyard in Bloom secretary Gill Churchill.

"We'll have better hanging baskets for this year's display and we've enjoyed more involvement with community groups as well."

Mrs Churchill thanked the organisers of a bingo session at Bishop's Frome Village Hall, which raised £212 for the displays.

The fundraising will be followed up by a coffee morning at the home of town clerk Mike Cresswell, opposite the doctor's surgery in Pump Street, on Saturday, June 14, from 10am to noon.

Preparations are gearing up for judging, which will take place on on Wednesday July 16.
